The Hout Bay Youth Sailing Development Trust (HBYSDT), Registration Number (2016/150408/08), was founded to provide sailing development opportunities for the youth of the greater Hout Bay area. The HBYSDT is a registered, Non-Profit Organisation (NPO), managed under the directorship of seven Trustees, whose sole aim is to uplift and improve sailing opportunities for young people of all nationalities.
The Trustees include Director’s & CEO’s of Companies, united in their commitment to adding value to the youth sailing fraternity. Using their initiative and own finances, the HBYSDT purchased the racing yacht Gryphon in 2016, with its first goal being to race the Cape to Rio 2017, which they did very successfully, despite losing their rudder during the South Atlantic crossing.
Our purpose, via The HBYSDT, is to announce and highlight the sailing prowess of Hout Bay Youth Sailing. This brings to the project all the elements of empowerment, achievement, determination, hope, pride and success. The team have evolved from development sailing backgrounds, moving up the ladder and proving their worth as competent, competitive sailors. They are a team of talented and skilled individuals in their own right.
We aim to make sailing more accessible to previously disadvantaged communities and use sailing and the love for sport as a tool to transcend social barriers.
